Beckett & The Rocket (Scientist, that is)

*both photos from www.parlezsport.com*
It seems one of my favorite Texan Red Sox players has roped himself a wife.  To avoid the papparazzi and media circus, Beckett bumped up the wedding date from February 1st to mid-January.  All the crazy talk from last year of why and how and who is this Holly girl he got engaged to....well I don't have any secret information of my own, but what I did figure was knowing what little I know about Beckett and him being a Texan, it makes sense he chose a girl from his hometown. Beckett seems to continue to surround himself with locals from his hometown area.  Josh did not go for the pretty girl who was waiting back in Spring for her man. Josh Cowboy'd Up and found himself a Rocket Scientist.  A Purty Rocket Scientist at that!
A cowboy wedding with Zona Jones(local Beaumont boy) singing
his new single "Two Hearts One Love" while the group dances.  You'll catch a quick glance of Holly and Josh dancing as well. If I were a betting gal, I'd say the wedding and reception took place at Josh's ranch south of San Antonio, The Herradura Ranch. How else to pull off the early wedding and getting a venue with no glitches?   So back to that Rocket Scientist gig. Holly actually is employed with Boeing as a space-engineering consultant on the west coast but time will tell if she'll keep that gig and trade it in for a much higher cause....Red Sox Wives Club donating their time to charity. Oh another little tidbit which is sort of funny...the Beckett's have asked for gifts to be in the form of Gift Cards to places such as Macy's, Bloomingdale's, JC Penney's, Amazon.com, etc. I'm still mulling that over in my head trying to figure this out. But to each his own.

I know some may think I'm hot for Beckett...but actually I just love his persona on the field...he's a Texan through and through. He doesn't apologize for who he is (he does apologize and takes responsibility for losses).  So long Holly doesn't suck anymore ERA out of Beckett...I'm good with this.  Maybe Holly has been teaching Josh some means of firing up that 'rocket' with-in  and Joshua Patrick will Bring It all the way to October.

Family Matters

I've lived in Austin almost 9 years.  I moved here indirectly because of 9-11 but that's another story for another post.   I was in Austin area for the weekend after a job interview when I saw I had a voicemail on my cell.  Now I was way out in the country visiting a dear friend so my phone would intermittently receive calls or texts.  It was Sunday morning and I had had a nice visit with friends and was enjoying my coffee.  As I listened to the voicemail from another friends' mom(who also worked at a local police department) to call as there was an emergency. Still just thinking it was something to do with Probation...I called.  My mind went numb after hearing. I hurriedly through clothes into my suitcase, got dressed, barely brushed my hair and I don't think I bothered to put one ounce of makeup on.  Running into the other room to tell Kim I had to leave right then because Dustin, my little sister's son, had been killed.

Dustin was the middle child between two sisters. The older sister who knew everything (and still does I LOVE YOU LINDSAY!!)  The little sister barely even being in this world yet but she was loved dearly by both her siblings...and she looked like me :)   Dustin was his father's right hand man on Sunday's at church, helping his dad out during Children's Church.  Dustin was a character AND he had character.  Dustin had more sense of what was right than most of us do in a lifetime. He loved to write. He loved to play the drums(like his mom did).  He is missed terribly.  My heart aches for my little sister. still.  Even though we're a family of five siblings, it was just she and I after the last sibling moved out and we were 10 and 6.  We were and are so different but she loves me like my mother does, unconditionally.  She's always been there for me while I was a single parent raising my son.  I wish there was something I could do to turn back the clock.  Memories of Dustin are everywhere in their house. Dustin's life should be celebrated. I still question why....

Everyone has been praying for my older sister's daughter, Crystal and her health and I thank you.

This time of year is always very hard. But we move forward. Tell those who you care about that you love them. Life is short. Shorter than we may think.

Where is the Luck You Said You'd Bring to Me?

As the new year of 2011 is beginning, I'm hoping and praying that it brings better luck than 2010 did.  As far as I'm concerned 2010 can bite Beck's tweeter and I won't speak of it fondly in years to come.  Due to legal constraints I won't discuss my feelings of my layoff from work here but due to this incident, I am quite guarded at any future loyalty to employers. I've always been one who gets back up after being kicked down...but it's getting harder as my bones are feeling it. I have hopes and dreams I've yet to see and hope to though....I refuse to believe that luck only comes in the form of 'bad' and I'm thinking this karma thing is a buncha marlarky cos I've been in the helping business my entire career so not sure who's karma I got instead of mine.

I don't think you make your own destiny necessarily either.  Sometimes SHIT happens. And sometimes Shit happens to Good People and I'm still trying to figure out why.  I've eaten cabbage and black eye peas today for my good luck to come.  I'm ready for Change and a Challenge.
The Tat pic?  Oh I'm thinking maybe I should get it to bring me good luck :)

Holidaze

**photo snatched off christmasstockimages.com

Garbage cans are overflowing with wrapping paper.  Bellies are filled with turkey, ham, stuffing/dressing or gumbo and rice and pie/pudding/cookies/cakes.  Much giggling is going on. Some are screaming at their television sets. Lights still blinking on homes and trees. Hugs and goodbyes are happening.  Some are still trying to figure out how to put together toys or install computer programs. Some are wiping tears for those they lost this year. Memories were made.  Once again Christmas rush came and gone this year.  Stories will be told. (or not)   What's your favorite memory this year?

All That Matters

2010 hasn't quite been the year I was hoping for.  It started off with my boss telling me he was most likely going to sell the company so I wouldn't be assured a job.  But that 'seemed' to fall by the wayside...then I had surgery on my neck to repair damage to one of my discs...fast forward....when it came time for me to get referred to physical therapy, I discover my surgeon had a bicycle accident and now has spine injuries himself which meant it took me 2 months to get into see another surgeon before I could get referred to P.T. so I'm still behind in my physical rehabilitation. Then when I'm finally getting the rehab I need(at about $200 a pop), I get told I'll be laid off and my last day will be the Friday before my birthday. WOOO HOOOO!!  During the month of October I head home for a quick visit and I have a blow out!!!  Near disaster but I'm safe and get home safe......So I get my work car which is awesome!!! But then when it comes time for the annual inspection, I discover the catalytic converter is screwed up and needs fixing before it will pass....so now I'm waiting to see if I can be eligible for a Waiver program....so after all of that I finally get things ready to head home for Christmas...when I discover a flat before I leave....:SIGH:  But after a good friend helps me out I  make it home for my family Christmas just in time for a great cajun meal....and laughs and hugs with the family.

So now it is Christmas and although I'm still unemployed, have no money for gifts, seemingly no job prospects at this moment....I have love of family and friends and that means more than any diamond necklace, any xbox, any ipad or computer, or any other bellsandwhistles gift you could give me.

All Wrapped Up with a nice Red Bow

I've not watched every Survivor show but this season I got hooked into it.  I think it was because of the whole Older vs Younger Tribe thing.  Early on this player, Jud somethingorother, got tagged with the nickname, Fabio, cos of his physique and blond long hair...and he seemed alittle 'dumb'.  But this dude played them...all the way to the end and won the Big Bucks.  SO Hats off to Fabio...youngest person to win the million bucks off Survivor!

Kudos to him!!!

Through Rain, Snow, Sleet and in the Buff

Everyone is gushing over Cliff Lee's decision to return to Philly and forgo New York and writing about it....but as I tried to figure out a way to give my own version, I came across an interesting story and ... well, let me just explain.

So I know it can be a boring job delivering mail...fighting off dogs and lonely women so "Joe Postal Worker" in Wisconsin decided he'd cheer up one of his customers as she'd been in a slump and stressed out.   Joe showed up one day to deliver her mail with a smile...and that's it. Nothing else on. But. A. Smile.
Of course, it was delivered to her office so perhaps someone else complained as several days later, he was arrested.   The police who arrested "Joe" stated to the reporter that upon further review, the worker told police that delivering mail while completely naked probably wasn't a good idea".

YA THINK????????????????????
ok Back to Baseball!

Will Lee or Won't he?

Dear Cliff,

Just to remind you of the Yankee fan who bashed/bathed your wife in ugliness.....and a few reasons why you should choose the Rangers over the Yankees

Texans say "Hi Ya!"   Yankees say "Get the fuck outta my way"
Texas have Nolan
Yankees have Steinbrenner
If you pick Texas, I'll root for your team (when you're not playing the Sox)
If you pick New York, I'll boo your team every game they play
Texas has a cooler flag than New York
I live here in Texas

Sincerely,

Tex

Gun For Hire

As many of you know at the end of October I was laid off from my position at the juvenile justice company I had worked at for the last 3 years.  At age 52 with all my work experience working in the juvenile justice system and with kids, I'm looking and wondering what's Next???    Well, I've been watching John Henry this year and it seems he's broadening his horizons and has bought himself a soccer team in Liverpool.  A Soccer TEAM!!!   And just when we all were sitting here waiting for the Sox to turn on the oven, they go and put all 4 burners on and turn on the stove to 500 freaking degrees!!!!!!!!!!
AGon AND Crawford?????????????????????   Millions of Bucks being spent here and now they're driving up the sale on Lee for the Yankees???   Loving it so it's really gotten me to thinking...if John Henry has so much cash on hand, I believe he needs to hire ME.

I'm open to suggestions as to what sort of positions he could use me as. My background is in juvenile justice and although I don't own these now, I previously had a badge and handcuffs.  So I'll be waiting for your input

Meanwhile, I'm developing a position that I could send me resume for that Henry would buy into and hire me.
 I mean we're a perfect fit
I don't have a job
He has money
I need a job
He has money
I love the Red Sox
He owns them
as my good friend Ted said, "It's Density"

Grave (wo)men, near death, who see with blinding sight

*photo used without permission off  of wikipedia site

I'm not sure...well I am sure why but it makes no sense but when I think of Pearl Harbor I think of Jamaica.  I lived in Jamaica when I saw the movie "Tora Tora Tora" .  I remember watching this show vividly....I don't think I cared much for history before then and it really helped me to see what had happened.  December 7th we remember those who suffered and were lost.   Some of us were posting about Remembering this day on Facebook.

Facebook is a means of social media where you can let your friends, your family, even people you haven't actually MET what YOUR Cause is.  So the other day someone starts posting on Facebook to post a cartoon character to show your solidarity against Child Abuse...next thing you know someone is saying that pedophile's are pushing this...and now I see the latest supposedly donations to child abuse organizations increased because of this.

Then another cause popped up...Standing up for the Unemployed...I'm one of those so I'm definitely wanting to stand up for that.

The last 'Cause' today was a sad one...Elizabeth Edwards passed today.  One of the most admirable women I've even seen grace the political scene.  She fought the good fight but in the end, while she accepted her fate but did not go out quietly....in honor of this beautiful woman I want to post a poem that we should remember when we think of Elizabeth because she was a woman who chose to live in the face of death. I think you'll know the author

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Sweet Dreams Elizabeth

I Don't Know Why You Say Goodbye, I Say Hello

You say yes, I say no              You say stop and I say go, go, go           Oh, nooooooooooooooooooooooo
I dont know WHY you Say GoodBye

I say high, you say low                       You say why, and I say I don't know

I don't know why you say goodbye.....I SAY HELLO

So I prayed for the Sox to sign Adrian....I should have specified.
I'm afraid the change is going to take me a long long time to adjust.

Feel The Burn?

Things are heating up in Boston....We got Salt. We got Tek.

It's Not You, It's Me

It's about time that ESPN got their head out their ass or the clouds and are divorcing Joe and Jon from Sunday Night Baseball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I, for one(along with many many many others) will be elated and not forced to use the mute button on their handy remote.   While baseball is a few days away (FINE....but let me live in my denial)....at least we can dream of spending Sunday nights in peace.  To quote a good friend on Facebook...Ding Friggin' Dong the Witch is Dead!

On another note, I'd love to hear the 'story' of WHY someone would turn down $48 million for 4 years to work(play) baseball??????!!!!!!!!!!!  Yah I'm sure there's some legit valid reason but I'm unemployed right now and I'm really thinking players should be grateful to play ball.

Free Agents coming......will Beltre get an offer from the Sox?  Will the Sox go for Werth??

And of course the Spankees are contacting Lee....Shocker??? I think not.

All I know is it's November...the weather is getting cooler...the nights are coming earlier....and baseball can't get here quick enough.

Welcome to Texas

**stolen off the web without permission but giving credit to one bad ass movie**

Welcome to Texas Giants!!  I hope you will understand when we kick your ass and take names later.  That dyed beard you got boy????  GONE. That long ass haircut Timmy??  GONE.  Ross boy? GONE.
We're taking 'em all out back to our shed with our Special Teams Man.  You remember him right???  (see above photo)

Ya may have the Halloween colors....but WE got Texas remedies for handling folks like you!  Chainsaws is just the tip of the iceberg....watch it or we'll fire up "Old Sparky" and send you to the Walls Unit.

Or better yet, how bout we call up Beckett from his Ranch south of San Antonio and he'll bring up his 30-06 and hunting crew and have target practice on ya.
Naw....I'm just 'joshing' ya...it's Halloween and I'm certain the Rangers have some Tricks up their sleeves and the only treats you Giants will be getting is a ride back to the hotel.  I'm sure they'll have some booze you can suck up and cry in.

Noogie Fever

Yah I know who it is.....but I have to mention that the man on the left was the 1st manager of the Texas Rangers...I continue to find it interesting in the Texas-Massachusetts connection story.

For the first time in the franchise history, the Rangers are going to be playing in the World Series!!!!  WoOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooT!
With Nolan at the helm, my bets on them all the way.

**both pictures used without permission off Sports DFW site**

The Freak is set against Mr. Lee tomorrow and I'd say that today the Rangers were given lessons in the Noogie

Dude....do Ya realize this was only in 1993????  A mere 17 years ago.  IF the Ranger pitchers need any help I'm willing to put my job on the line that Nolan could get on the bump and show them how it's done.

Picture used without permission Stephen Dunn/Getty images
And just in case you  don't know what the Texas flag looks like?  Expect to see alot of these during this World Series

Rangers.....they don't just carry Guns

Old fans....young fans....crazy fans...bandwagoner fans....in Texas today, there's alot of fans who are happy...even Red Sox Fans who live in Texas are Happy.   Rain wasn't going to get in the way of Destiny Friday night....nope. (pictures taken off of Dallas newspaper and Fort Worth Star and used without permission but hey I'm giving credit! )

And neither was ARod and the rest of the AHoles who followed him from New York.  Anyone who is watching Ranger ball has seen this shirt in both above pictures...Speed is the Antler sign the boys use(hence the deer with hands above the head like antlers) And Claw is for strength...using again their hand as 'the claw'.  Is it corny?? Hell yah....but I LOVE IT....it shows the camaraderie of the boys!!   One cute poster in Boston(see Globe) even took it a step further to diss ARod (cos that's what we do as Red Sox fans)    If you're a Sox fan, you GET it and I don't need to explain it....if you need explanation...call me.

October 27th, The Rangers will take on XXX Team to the World Series....and my bets are on them....I know I'll be smiling that day anyway cos it brings back such good memories

Potayto...Potahto You know the Rest

The Rangers are in the Play Offs....they're in a battle against the Evil Empire as we speak (or as I type).  Cliff Lee was brought on to help out the pitching staff and to win it.  They got their division and now they're on a quest for the bigger hardware. Nolan Ryan is at the helm and I personally hope The Rangers give the Yankees a noogie just like Ryan gave Ventura years ago.

Two players are detrimental in this quest: Josh Hamilton and CJ Wilson.  Two very different men who've reached a place where they've dreamed of but took different routes to get here.

CJ Wilson born in 1980 in Newport, California - land of free thinkers.
Josh Hamilton born in 1981 in Raleigh, North Carolina - land of Old School thinkers

CJ drafted in 2001 in  the 5th round by The Rangers but 141st overall and begin playing in their Minor League working his way up.
Josh drafted 1st in 1999 by Tampa Bay, signing a contract and playing in their Minor League soon thereafter, making his mark.

As CJ was just beginning to make his mark in baseball in 2001....Josh and his parents were involved in a car accident. Although his parents recovered, Josh had injuries that (by choice) took him down a road of abusing drugs and alcohol and his first stint in Rehab.  His drug/alcohol abuse continued through to 2004 till he was suspended for failed drug tests.  Josh did not play baseball from 2004 - 2006. In the summer of 2006, the Rays allowed him to play in the minor league but later was drafted in the Rule 5 Draft and ended up with the Reds. The Reds had to retain him all season to keep rights on him and in December 2007, Josh was traded to The Rangers.  Josh married the daughter of one of the men who helped him in his quest to 'get clean'.
Once in the Rangers, Josh flourished...making it to the All Star Game and in the Home Run Derby, recording the most home runs total in the derby...not winning the title but his first at bat recorded 28 home runs!!
But just as soon as his life was connecting and back on track, headlines ripped showing him to lapsed in his drug/alcohol addiction.  The incident occurred in January of 2009 and although Josh informed MLB. the Rangers, his wife and family....photos hit in August of the same year splatting him all over the news.  Josh is now clean and has chosen to not join in any of the alcoholic post-season celebrations. But there was another player who chose not to participate in alcoholic post-season celebrations but because he didn't have the Sensationalistic Story....he wasn't thrust into the limelight. Well...until he put 'his opinion' out there.

Flip over to CJ...he begin playing in the minor league with the Rangers in Frisco till around 2003 when the season was cut short and he had to have the Tommy John surgery. He missed all of 2004 recuperating ( a very different sort of rehab than Josh's) and returned in 2005 but progressed slowly up to being closer 2008 but back down to Relief Set Up Man in 2009....but in 2010, CJ was named in the Starting Rotating Pitchers line up.  CJ, a professed Taoist, lives a 'Straight Edge' life, a life that one abstains from alcohol and drugs and promiscuous sex in order to maintain a healthy and poison-free body. He even has a tattoo inscribed on his torso "Straight Edge" to make a statement. He  CJ put his opinion out there regarding baseball players regarding politics in a Pearlman interview:  Although the term 'thinking man's game' is associated with baseball....it's very that many of the players don't always think alot about politics or other worries of the world...according to CJ.

"It's frustrating," says C.J. Wilson, the 27-year-old Texas relief pitcher. "I'd say there are two reasons. One, there's a general lack of education among us. But two -- and most important -- you're talking about a population that makes a ton of money, so the ups and downs of the economy don't impact whether we're getting paid. Therefore, we often don't care."

You can best believe he got alot of grief over that comment from inside his own clubhouse....but I think CJ has learned his lesson.  Although his opinion may be somewhat correct....ya gotta watch how you talk about 'your team'.   Wilson is definitely an eccentric individual in the world of baseball....he's not your normal jock. He's even working on a novel. Of course, baseball is the backdrop but it's more or less a book about life.  CJ races race cars and plans on turning to that occupation once his baseball career is over. CJ has a twitter and blog he keeps up with.  He loves photography but why shouldn't he?  His parents were as well...CJ also entered the screenwriting program while he pitched at Loyola.   He is also a lefty...no I dont mean he pitches with his left hand....I'm talking politics.

So the Rangers and Yankees have each won one....and now we proceed to Game 3....I love watching baseball but the stories behind the players can be quite as  interesting as the game itself.

I have been wondering what a conversation/debate would be like to listen to between CJ and Schilling. :)

What the HELL did you think Theo Meant when he said this was the Bridge Year?????????????????

#%@*!!!

Thanks to my buddies over at Surviving Grady for this tidbit on Beckett's performance last night...so it gave me alittle inspiration to write about.
*Picture from Getty off of Yahoo Sports
So OK...I admit Beckett has not had a great season...but heck he's been on the DL most of it!!!!   But last night I was excited, anxious and alittle scared for Beckett.  But he delivered...for a while.  I have to say at the top of the 7th I was shocked Tito kept Beckett in (yah I know I shouldn't be).   I actually thought after that 2nd homerun hit off of Beckett, Tito should have pulled him.  But he didn't but thank God for Hitting. I know the saying "Pitching wins games" but a game isn't won by no Runs. But BACK to why I'm writing this...

With the addition of Beckett to the Sox back in '05, Boston added a few choice words to their vocabulary such as 'horseshit'.  Now Beckett is an intelligent Texas boy so don't let his lack of 'big words' fool you but sometimes those 4 letter words just make you feel better when you've had a shitty game/day.   Never one to mince words, when asked about his start, Beckett gave me giggles at his response:
"I don't have any words that aren't four letters," ....  "I started leaving some balls up."

Now if Beckett could just get his balls in gear and quit leaving them up to be hit....we'd all be happier.
And yes I'm choosing to use a picture of Beckett NOT getting a homerun hit off of him so THERE

And for all you Beckett Haters.....leave me be. I'm taking my smiles where I can get them.
